Within the sufficiency of God is our hope, help and salvation: Psalm 120

Where does your soul yearn to reside? Are you at rest in this world filled with complete contentment? Do you long for the wild pleasures of this wicked world? The curse of sin is raging throughout all of creation, setting man bitterly against the reign, authority and love of God. When you face trouble do you rage against God shaking your fist proclaiming that you are empowered to overcome or do you fall down before Him crying out for help? “In my trouble I cried to the Lord, and He answered me. Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.” Psalm 120:1-2  Will you call out to the faithful and true God who delivers our souls out of the muck and mire of this world? What do you serve, God or your idols: Psalm 97

What do you serve? Do you serve your job, friends, money, pleasures or knowledge as idols? Have you placed worldly ambition and selfish desires as the main focus and desire of your life. “Let all those be ashamed who serve graven images, who boast themselves of idols; worship Him, all you gods. Zion heard this and was glad, and the daughters of Judah have rejoiced because of Your judgements, O Lord. For You are the Lord Most High over all the earth; You are exalted far above all gods.” Psalm 97:7-9 Only God is worthy of our worship. Be on guard against the idols that creep into your life. Remember the mighty works of God throughout all of creation for all time. “Hate evil, you who love the Lord, who preserves the souls of His  godly ones; He delivers them from the hand of the wicked.” Psalm 97:10  Do you love the Lord? He will deliver all of those who love Him. Trust in Him and not yourself. Continue Reading…

Riches of man cannot obtain the strength of Calvary: Job 27 and 28

Where will we find hope? When life is over and all the works of our hands are reckoned before God, what assurance will we have? Will God hear our lament in distress? The ways of the wicked will not go on forever; all mankind will stand and give an account for their actions and those that chose to abide in their sinfulness will find no hope. There is nothing that a man earn or create during their life that will grant security when life comes to an end. Help and deliverance can only come from outside of the ability of man. Did Job believe that in God alone was his only source for deliverance? Continue Reading…

David was to Mephibosheth as Jesus is to me: 2 Samuel 9 and 10

What quality of life and hope for the future was there for a cripple during the time of David’s rule of Israel? After the death of Saul everything happening within Israel was chaotic and in 2 Samuel 4:4 the story of Jonathan’s son Mephibosheth’s flight from danger is given with one simple verse. In all the urgency to flee after the death of Jonathan and Saul he was dropped by his nurse and became crippled in his feet at the age of five. Continue Reading…

Jesus Christ is the only hope for today and forever: 1 Samuel 7 and 8

“If you return to the Lord with all your heart, remove the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you and direct your hearts to the Lord and serve Him alone; and He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.” 1 Samuel 7:3 NASB  Look at the language that Samuel uses to speak to the Israelites. Is the deliverance from God something conditional that needs the positive response of the Israelites before it will come to pass? Continue Reading…

The Deliverer still lives, find hope for tomorrow: Judges Summary

The book of Judges is filled with a cycle of the failures of the Israelites and God’s deliverance for the people. The people were straying from obeying and keeping God’s commands given through Moses. Life became easy for the Israelites within the promised land and they forgot that God had brought them out of Egypt and given them the promised land. There are glimpses of strong leadership at the beginning of Judges with Othniel, Ehud, Shamgar, Deborah, and Gideon but as time passes the judges that are raised by God to deliver Israel are also marked by their faults such as Jephthah and Samson.
