Hold to your word as you sojourn on Earth: Numbers 29 and 30

After reading Numbers 29 and 30 today all I am left with many confusing questions. Why are the sacrifices constantly being restated? Were the people not listening? What’s the point? As I ask these questions I remember what has happened in Numbers 27 where the mantle of leadership is transfered from Moses to Joshua. I am also reminded of Numbers 26 where the census was take again after the 40 years in the wilderness and there the was no one left who was numbered in the wilderness because God said, “They shall surely die in the wilderness.” Only Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun were left from those who disbelieved and rebelled. A High Priest stands between life and death: Numbers 15 and 16

I’ve neglected my blogging for the last two months because I have been studying Hebrews, 1 John, and Nehemiah but I think it is important for me to continue the story and journey of blogging through the Bible. In Hebrews the author is proclaiming Jesus Christ as better than everything that Jew’s hold as important. John is fighting against false teaching in 1 John. The ruined wall is being rebuilt in Nehemiah. The story of scripture all ties together and it is best seen as we read through the Bible. Continue Reading…

The painful reality of sin and God’s provision: Leviticus 19 and 20

>I think every other time I have read Leviticus it was my version of the blitzkrieg: fast and swift with little accuracy. It’s the kind of thinking that says if I blitz through this ‘boring’ book of the Bible enough I will eventually glean something useful from it. I was really wrong because I have been reading through Leviticus since May 19th and even though it has been a long slow walk through this difficult book full of sacrifices and laws but I am finding great enjoyment and passion because I am seeing a picture of Jesus Christ .

Discourse between God and men: Leviticus 7 and 8

God does provide. Through out all of the commands God gives Moses there are portions that are given to Aaron and his sons. It has been easy to look at the sacrifices that are made and not realized that the priest’s responsibility was to serve in the temple. Their food came from God through the sacrifices. Getting hands-on experience with your sacrifice: Leviticus 3 and 4

When the sacrifices were made for their sins the person for whom the sacrifice had their hands in direct involvement. I had not noticed the fact that the person would hold the head of the animal before killing it. What must have been the impact on the people? Continue Reading…

A foreshadowing of Jesus Christ in the thicket: Genesis 21 and 22

What did the scene look like when Abraham went to sacrifice his son Isaac? It makes me wonder about the scene. I think it is easy for me to overlook the story as a quick event. In reality Abraham and Isaac set up the altar for the sacrifice. When Abraham bound Isaac I think is was the hardest thing he had ever been called to do. It wasn’t an automaton that went to sacrifice on the mountain. It was a loving father who I imagine cried and hurt as he followed God’s command. I wonder how Isaac felt? He must have been terrified being bound and having a knife ready to kill him. What an image of love. The love for God and the love of a father and son. Continue Reading…
