What do you think, say and do in your moments of doubt, confusion and despair? Do you hold fast to God, unwavering in your faith and trust? We are incapable of maintaining a consistent trust and faith apart from God because the curse of sin upon us. In Psalm 88 Herman, one of the sons of Korah, is enduring a constant barrage of despair and oppression. He cries out to God questioning why these troubles are happening and what purpose can be found in a season of trials. ”Will You perform wonders for the dead? Will the departed spirits rise and praise You? Will Your lovingkindness be declared in the grave, Your faithfulness in Abaddon? Will Your wonders be made known in the darkness? And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? Psalm 88:10-12 Continue Reading…

Yeah justified oh blessed thought: Psalm 26
How are we justified? Can we justify ourselves through any action of our own? Often we think that because followed our perceived rules that we should automatically be justified. Can the events of our life give us a valid picture of God’s view of us? We cannot fathom what God is purposing to accomplish through us. The moments of trouble and trial or peace and quiet that we endure are all ordained and allowed by God to bring glory to Himself. Continue Reading…
Will faith endure amid a torrent of questions: Job 13 and 14
“Be silent before me so that I may speak; then let come on me what may. Why should I take my flesh in my teeth and put my life in my hands? Though He slay me, I will hope in Him. Nevertheless I will argue my ways before His presence. Listen carefully to my speech, and let my declaration fill your ears. Behold now, I have prepared my case; I know that I will be vindicated. Who will contend with me? For then I would be silent and die.” Job 13:13-19 The end of the first round of discussions between Job, Zophar, Bildad and Eliphaz comes to a close in Job chapters 13 and 14. Continue Reading…

Many questions answered by God’s sovereignty: 1 Samuel 15 and 16
How are we to look upon failure in light of Saul’s kingship over Israel? What is God rejecting in Saul? Can we ever fail completely before God? Since God chose Saul as king over Israel didn’t he already know that Saul wouldn’t be a faithful king? Is Saul’s kingship an illustration of how apart from Jesus Christ we are unable to follow God? What traits did Saul exhibit that led to his turning aside from God? What does Saul’s failure mean for me today? How do I reject God as Saul did by choosing my own way over the way that God desires for me? How can I guard my heart from turning aside from God? The reading of 1 Samuel chapter 15 caused me to ask a lot of questions about who God is and His sovereignty. It is easy to look at the story of Saul’s kingship and think that he was cheated out of ruling Israel. The choice I make on a daily basis to either follow God’s commands or seek my own glory and way was the same choice that was faced by Saul when he was king over Israel. Saul chose to seek out his own way apart from God. I believe that God is sovereign and whatever He chooses to do is wholly right so when I see that the kingdom was taken away from Saul I can trust that God did it for His purpose and glory. Hold to your word as you sojourn on Earth: Numbers 29 and 30
After reading Numbers 29 and 30 today all I am left with many confusing questions. Why are the sacrifices constantly being restated? Were the people not listening? What’s the point? As I ask these questions I remember what has happened in Numbers 27 where the mantle of leadership is transfered from Moses to Joshua. I am also reminded of Numbers 26 where the census was take again after the 40 years in the wilderness and there the was no one left who was numbered in the wilderness because God said, “They shall surely die in the wilderness.” Only Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun were left from those who disbelieved and rebelled. Hopes desire grounded at Calvary
What is in a life? Why was my life chosen? How could it be worth dying? How could desire compel someone so much? Did it really happen to me? Does love fall upon me? How do I not deserve death? Could I give up everything? Can this lusting flesh prevail? How can I repay? A gift? A death? A Savior?
Life will hope again because of what Christ has done on the cross. No sin that you commit will ever be too great for Christ to cover fully. God loves you so much that he gave His son to die on that cross.
Thank you for loving me Lord!
