Provision for a fast food sex saturated world: Leviticus 17 and 18

Lord,

Open these eyes to see your glory. I sit in the torrent of life and I feel beaten and bruised by all the concerns of life. Oh how easy it is to get consumed with the swirling waters around me and not focus on you. Open my heart, mind, and soul as I read Leviticus 17 and 18 today Lord. I need your help to heal my heart. I submit to you now and forever, Amen.

Throughout Leviticus I am constantly reminded about how inadequate humanity is inherently. In chapter 17 God commands the people of Israel to stop sacrificing animals to other gods like the people of Egypt. People needed to bring their offering to the tabernacle to sacrifice to God as a peace offering. In chapter 18 God restates some of the 10 commandments in greater detail regarding how people can relate to each other. After reading these two chapters I feel saddened and a little depressed. Continue Reading…

Overwhelming iniquity of mankind and a scapegoat: Leviticus 15 and 16

I have found it enjoyable yet difficult to read through Leviticus. I am overwhelmed by the burden the law places upon the Israelites. In Leviticus 15 you find out what circumstances cause a person to be unclean and it seems like everyone is unclean frequently. In chapter 16 verse God tells the people that the law is for their good because they will not defile His tabernacle. I know I struggle accepting rules even when they are for my own good. How did the Israelites react to this command? Continue Reading…

Illness amongst the Israelites found in Leviticus 13 and 14

It is confusing to read about leprosy in the bible. I had no idea what leprosy was so I looked it up: Leprosy. It is amazing to see what leprosy does to people it is a very contagious and dangerous caused by bacteria. After looking at what leprosy is I can appreciate why there is so much time devoted to it in Leviticus. In a large community such as the Israelites had in their time post captivity there cold have been easily been an outbreak of disease if there was not guidelines to follow. Continue Reading…

The impossibility within law: Leviticus 11 and 12

I am listening to Leeland’s song Carried to the Table while blogging today. Great song that proclaims my inability but God’s sufficiency!

Impossibilities! The more I read of the law given from God to the people of Israel I see how it is totally impossible to uphold the law in the human condition. We are wholly inadequate to keep God’s commands. The song Carried to the Table tells us how we are only able carried to be carried. The grace that God extends to us is not able to be grasped by us. Continue Reading…

Being worthy, holy, and desirable: Leviticus 9 and 10

Oh how unworthy I am. It is only by grace that I live, breathe, and exist. The Lord is unchanging. How do I walk away from God’s statutes just as Nadab and Abihu did even after seeing the glory of God? Is it the condition of man? This sin filled world is in need of a Savior! Jesus Christ is the only way that we can survive day to day. I am burdened right now Lord. I know how easily I forget what you have done. Forgive me! I have squandered all that you have given me. I am the prodigal son. I attempt constant coups against your rule in my life. Forgive me! I am unable, unworthy, unholy, and undesirable apart from Christ. Help me! Remove the ‘un’ from my life and let me live able, worthy, holy, and desirable. In silence I hear. In darkness I see. Lord I am wholly yours. Continue Reading…

Discourse between God and men: Leviticus 7 and 8

God does provide. Through out all of the commands God gives Moses there are portions that are given to Aaron and his sons. It has been easy to look at the sacrifices that are made and not realized that the priest’s responsibility was to serve in the temple. Their food came from God through the sacrifices. Continue Reading…

Sin’s burden and weight expressed in the law: Leviticus 5 and 6

We are inherently sinful! When I look at the law expressed in chapters 5 and 6 of Leviticus I see everyone living in sin. People sinned and it did not matter if they knew it or not sin was still sin. When I think about how difficult it has been for me to stay consistent in my Bible reading I can’t fathom how impossible it would be to keep up with the sacrifices. Continue Reading…

Getting hands-on experience with your sacrifice: Leviticus 3 and 4

When the sacrifices were made for their sins the person for whom the sacrifice had their hands in direct involvement. I had not noticed the fact that the person would hold the head of the animal before killing it. What must have been the impact on the people? Continue Reading…

The beautifully barbaric and blood sacrifice of Leviticus 1 and 2

When I have read the different offerings that the Lord commanded the Israelites in the past I always thought it was too violent and bloody and I never really wanted to understand it more. Oh how wrong I was. Leviticus is not just boring laws filled with sacrifices, it is a passionate account of worship. Continue Reading…
