A question of legacy and posterity: Psalms Summary

The story that God has woven throughout creation, as evidenced in Scripture, speaks to the work of God in the lives of earthen vessels. Creation was perverted by the curse of sin but the grace of God purposed to restore that fellowship long before it was ever broken. God is at work in the lives of mankind and He has given us everything that we need to survive. God offered up Jesus Christ on the cross for our sins and then He tabernacles within us through the Holy Spirit. We are richly blessed beyond all measure and comprehension. Oh that the story ended at this moment with the war over but the truth is that sin still rages in its lost battle causing as much collateral damage as possible. Continue Reading…

Turn aside from the Idols of the world: Psalm 135

Will you join me in praising God, the Lord of heaven and earth and creator of all things? The situation you find yourself in today will not change the truth that God is worthy of your praise and adoration. Do you praise God and wholeheartedly adore Him? Do you find yourself wondering why God should be praised? As we face life’s monotony and a varying array of trouble there hope for us found in praising God. What is the basis of praise? In Psalm 135 we are exhorted by the psalmist to praise the Lord but along with this exhortation we are given a reason to praise Him. “For I know that the Lord is great and that our Lord is above all gods.” Psalm 135:5  The foundation of praise is built upon the deeds of God and intrinsically found in His nature. Simple perseverance and its effect on legacy: Psalm 102

In distress what do we do? Do we call out to God or do we run to the house of cards that we have built up to find deliverance. Have the circumstances of life left you helpless and hopeless? In the moments that we are faced with overwhelming distress and despair we must remember that God alone is our hope and help. Our dependance upon God’s faithfulness that carries us through the difficult moments of life is a testimony to God’s ultimate deliverance. “This will be written for the generation to come, that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord. For He looked down from His holy height; from heaven the Lord gazed upon the earth, to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to set free those who were doomed to death, that men may tell of the name of the Lord in Zion and His praise in Jerusalem, when the peoples are gathered together, and the kingdoms, to serve the Lord.” Psalm 102:18-22 Continue Reading…

What lasting purpose exists for us with life so terribly short? Is there any value to our daily tasks that we repetitively complete? When we look at all that we accomplish from day to day, week to week, year to year and culminating in our life we tend to feel infinitely small because we truly make little to no lasting impact. It is only when we focus upon God and His working throughout time that we can see our true purpose. “For all our days have declined in Your fury; we have finished our years like a sigh. As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years, or if due to strength, eighty years, yet their pride is but labor and sorrow; for soon it is gone and we fly away. Who understands the power of Your anger and Your fury, according to the fear that is due to You? Will your legacy be founded upon God and His faithfulness: Psalm 76

Is your family renowned for anything? What is your city known for accomplishing? Is your nation remembered as something great? As we look upon the legacies of our families, cities and nations there are many different desires that fill our hearts. Do you what to come from a rich family who has a long lineage reaching back into the past? Do you want to live in a city that played a crucial role in the development of your country? Do you want to live in a nation that defends the world and seeks to build prosperity and equality throughout for all mankind? It is complete foolishness to seek any of these desire no matter how nobel they may seem. The only renown worthy of acknowledgement is one that speaks to the greatness of the God of  heaven and earth. Continue Reading…

Why do you get up in the morning? Do you have an eternal perspective as you live from day to day? Have you felt life becoming completely futile and lacking hope? Whatever we choose to focus our heart, mind, soul and strength upon will shape the outlook we have for life. If you have consistently focused your attention throughout life upon the accumulation of things in this world you are walking a perilous path that will leave you bereft of hope. Living signposts pointing everyone to God: Psalm 48

When was the last time you walked into a building and were completely amazed from all that you beheld? Did the experience take your breath away? Have you visited a world renowned city with a multitude of architectural masterpieces? Did the collection of buildings leave you speechless? In Psalm 48 the sons of Korah are describe the city of Jerusalem. Their description of the city is not based in its own renown but upon the value that God has placed upon Jerusalem and the people of Israel. God’s blessing upon Israel and the City of David was evident to all who beheld it, “For, lo, the kings assembled themselves, they passed by together. They saw it, then they were amazed; they were terrified, they fled in alarm.” Psalm 48:4,5  The renown and power of Jerusalem was impacting everyone who beheld the city. What is desire? Why is desire so fleeting yet all consuming? What does the expression of our desires say about us? When we place our faith and trust in Jesus Christ are we foregoing our own desires from that moment on? Do you desire a good paying job, a spouse and family, a bigger home, a friendship that will stand the test of time or a new gadget? At what point do the wants and needs we claim as our desires become idols in our lives? As you look back on your life what are the most memorable moments that come to your mind? If you were to write an autobiography or a letter to your children and grandchildren what important facts would you include? Would you see the faithfulness of God evident throughout your life or would you see your own prowess and strength exhibited? In Psalm 18 David reflects back upon his life after God delivered him from Saul and all of his enemies. Call for God fearing leadership within the home: 2 Kings Summary

How do you live, breathe, and exist in a world filled with so many idols and avenues leading to idolatry? The book of 2 Kings focuses on the kingdoms of Israel and Judah from the end of Elijah’s ministry, seen in 1 Kings, to the beginning of the Babylonian captivity. The main theme relayed throughout the book is the idea of a legacy and it’s faithfulness or unfaithfulness to God. The Israelites have been living in the promised land for generations and the words spoken by Moses and Joshua about guarding themselves from the idols and idolatry of the inhabitants of the land they possessed have come to fruition with the adoption of the god’s throughout the land and a lack of respect and regard for the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
