Turn away from your adventures into the sufficient hands of God: Psalm 108

Think back to when you were a child. Did you ever envision that you were going on a great adventure into your basement, backyard or neighborhood? Did you pack and make preparations until you thought you were invincible? Were there times when you thought that you would finally be able to do everything the way you wanted without pesky adults telling you how everything should be done? As a child it is easy to think that the rules and intentions of our parents are burdensome but once we attempt to head out on our adventure we find that we were not able to sustain ourselves and we turn our backs to our adventure and head home to the provision of our parents. As an adult do you still act in your childish ways, thinking that life is a great adventure to conquered? Can you set your own path through the wilderness of life? God is never blind to the actions of mankind: 2 Chronicles 27 and 28

In 2 Chronicles 27 why did Jotham not enter the temple of the Lord? Do the corrupt actions of the Israelites result from a lack of spiritual leadership from Jotham? Chapter 27 recounts Jotham’s life and that he ordered his life towards God. Why is the human race so obstinate and headstrong? We so readily run off and seek out idols and whatever else seemingly meets our needs and desires to only realize our failure when we are ensnared in the grip of sin.

Did the wickedness of Ahaz, who ruled Judah after Jotham, stem from the perverse wickedness of the people of Judah during the reign of Jotham? When Ahaz wholeheartedly turned away from God what effect did it have on the nation of Judah? The protection and blessing of God was removed from Judah as they were invaded by Israel. God will ordain or allow difficult moments in our lives to remind us of our dependance upon Him. Continue Reading…

Obedience to God found in deliverance from servitude: Judges 3 and 4

My journey through the Bible has brought me to the book of Judges. As the generations go by and motives of the sons of Israel have changed the knowledge of God’s faithfulness and leadership of Joshua becomes just a faint memory. The sons of Israel have forgotten the Lord their God as they choose to intermarry with the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. Judges chapters 3-16 tell of how God raises up judges to bring Israel back to Him and away from false gods. Continue Reading…
