Will you indeed take refuge in God: Psalm 60

Words are a mighty way to proclaim who you are to the people around you. You can claim to be a great lover of books but you never read books. You can say that you are an expert photographer but you only use a camera once a year. Do you tell of your renowned cooking but you takeout food more often than you make it. We claim many things by our words but we cannot let our words be the only proof of who we are. Our actions will truly speak of who we are because by doing we show what our heart desires. What does your words proclaim about God? Do your actions affirm the words of your mouth?

Do you ever look upon your situation in life and think that everything is stacked against you? In those moments what are you looking to for hope? The hope you need in every situation in life is found in believing that every situation in life is ordained and allowed by God. You are in your present situation because God has a purpose for you being there. In Psalm 60 David knew that everything that happened to himself and Israel was because of God alone. He was pleading for God to be faithful and bring deliverance in the difficult moments of life. There was no other hope for David other than looking to God alone. “O give us help against the adversary, for deliverance by man is in vain. Through God we shall do valiantly, and it is He who will tread down our adversaries.” Psalm 60:11,12

The watershed of hope is found as you rest in the refuge of God. Trust God to carry you through the difficult moments and you will find a torrent of hope flooding through your life. When you let God, the creator of heaven and earth, carry your burdens of life you will have a renewed outlook. If your words tell of how God is your refuge and help in moments of trouble, will your actions in life show that you cling to God with all of your heart, mind, soul and strength? Take time to rest in God consistently and when the troubles of life rise to overtake you a hope and peace will be secured because of your steadfast faith in God’s sovereign provision.

Faith, purpose, trust, and friendship: 1 Samuel 19 and 20

What would you do if you knew that God was calling you to do a great work but the time was not right because there was an insurmountable barrier that God needed to move before you could do anything? This is the situation that faces David in 1 Samuel because he has been anointed by Samuel as the next king of Israel but he cannot take possession of the throne because Saul was still king. Could David have done anything through his own strength to resolve the problem of his not inheriting the throne immediately? David did the most daring thing he could by resting in God’s promise and providence as he awaited for his rule of Israel to begin. There are moments in my life that I wait just as David did for God to fulfill his promise and the temptation to fulfill my needs of through my own strength is ever present. Resting in God is difficult because we are giving up authority to God trusting that He knows exactly what we need. Continue Reading…

Jacob and Esau’s joyful reunion in Genesis 33 and 34

I love how Esau and Jacob reunite after the 20 plus years since they had seen each other. Jacob was fearful to see a angry and bitter brother who resented him. God is proved faithful in telling Jacob to leave Laban and head home. Esau was overjoyed to see his brother and his family. It makes me wonder if there are any grudges that I hold that I need to let go of?

Abram’s faith and his rescue of Lot and God’s Genesis 13 and 14

I love the picture that we have of the family community in Genesis 13 and 14. God had richly blessed both Lot and Abram to the point where the land couldn’t support them both. Abram loved Lot enough to let him choose where he wanted to take his herds and people. In this God also directed Abram to show the promise of the land his people would one day inherit. When Lot was captured the bonds of family were great enough to make Abram pursue Lot to free him. Continue Reading…

A perspective on valentines day

037_181It is interesting to look at how people look at Valentines Day. You have the couples who celebrate their love for each other. The single men and women who are troubled because they do not have someone to celebrate with. Then you have everyone else who tries to make the the day work for everyone whether it is looking at the true meaning of the day or just celebrating it with friends by sharing card and words of encouragement. I admire and love Valentines day but it is not because it is a holiday of love but because of the love I experienced on the 14th of February three years ago. Continue Reading…

Letting go of the past to embrace the future by the Grace of God

003_169Hey God how are things going? You know I can finally see that you are asking me to let go of my desires for my life… I really find that difficult to do! I see things in life that I want and they seem like the best thing in the world. -BUT- I am reminded of every other time in my life that I thought there was a perfect thing that I wanted that was not so perfect after all. I need your help to let go and not desire anything but you. It feels painful to follow your will Lord but in the end it is best. Waiting for your time… -Me

Only provision for this fallen world is Jesus Christ

091_160Today I am brutally reminded that pain is a live in the world. All around me I see many people hurting. A good friend of mine that I worked at Apple with has had another stroke which was very seious. My heart aches for his family. My mom finds herself hurting after a long day of work. Sin has cursed this world. Where do we find the hope we need?

I know the only hope I have is that Christ died for me on the cross. Without that wonderful cross I would be swept away in in the current of pain and despair. I actually think that it is more painful to stand firm upon God’s provision. Continue Reading…

Faith, hope, doubt, and faith in the mist of God’s Sovereignty

IMG_0100Back on February 15th I started a blog on why? It is still a question that is in the forefront of my mind. At that time I was walking around and oblivious to the future surgery I faced only months away. How did God allow this to happen? Well, that is an easy question to answer. God is God and He can do what ever he wants. God can ordain and allow everything that comes to our door step. Think of Job,he had no idea why his world was falling apart. We are blessed with a special behind the scenes view of the whole story. Continue Reading…

At this moment I feel like the I am living out the Joy Electric song “Sugar Rush”. I am feeling like I have just consume some drug. It is kind of funny.
