Looking back in praise and adoration on God’s faithfulness: Psalm 18

As you look back on your life what are the most memorable moments that come to your mind? If you were to write an autobiography or a letter to your children and grandchildren what important facts would you include? Would you see the faithfulness of God evident throughout your life or would you see your own prowess and strength exhibited? In Psalm 18 David reflects back upon his life after God delivered him from Saul and all of his enemies. The words of David do not center on his own capabilities but instead he focuses on God’s deliverance. Continue Reading…

Grace is the help and hope we desire: Psalm 17

Why do we fear the evil of this world that sows destruction throughout the world? How often do we incorrectly grant power and authority to Satan as we think of his effect on mankind? We are deceived into thinking that power rests with Satan but in truth all power resides in, through and from God alone. Satan has no authority unless it is granted by God. How can we not be in awe of the power of God when we realize the sheer might that He can wield. Continue Reading…

The joy of a life surrendered to God: Psalm 16

What is your most treasured possession? Where is your joy and fulfillment found? Is the foundation of your life a bulwark that cannot be moved? There is great joy found in David’s Psalm 16 as he expresses the delights of God. He delights in the Lord and in Him he placed his hope. He found an immense joy in God that could be found nowhere else.

Do you look upon the people who have walked this road of faith before you and long for a fraction of their faith. The faith of generations past seems like something to desire but that faith was developed through many difficult circumstances that shaped each person through some dark moments of life. Your faith is uniquely blessed because God has brought you through many different circumstances to build you up. Embrace the faith that God has bestowed upon you and move forward encouraging those around you. Continue Reading…

Simplicity of dependance: Psalm 13

When life starts to drag on and you feel lost in the torrent of life what do you do? David was a man that endured many sleepless nights fleeing for his life from many enemies and adversaries. Do you think David was always steadfast and hopeful as he faced each difficult moment? Where did David find hope? In the midst of the depressing moments of life when death felt like the only escape David turned towards God for his hope. He trusted in the lovingkindness of God for his salvation. When we face moments where death seems like the only comfort we have we need to look away from our circumstances and towards God. His faithfulness and lovingkindness will bring hope and wholeness to your bruised and beaten life. No matter where you find yourself today God is more than able to restore your joy and hope. Can you stop your striving and rest in God? Take time to just cling to God today.

Through the dark of night into a glorious new dawn: Psalm 12

The world around us is seeking to destroy everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord. The wickedness endures around us and our weakness becomes more evident as we stumble along. The idols of the world offer enticing solutions to the pain and discomfort of life. Surely this drug will ease the weariness of life that is oppressing me. Just one last one night stand will bring me wholeness. Another shot of whisky will numb that pain and regret. The world offers many solutions to the problems of life. What does a disciple of Jesus Christ do in the face of such opposition? Continue Reading…

When the way is unclear and hope is fleeting: Psalm 10

Lord, remember me! Lord remember those who are cast down by the wicked, remember the pain endured by the oppressed and remember the faithfulness that You have displayed time and time again. The heart of David in Psalm 10 pleads for God’s help for the downtrodden in the face of trouble. When wickedness prospers and  and the righteous are tossed aside in the gutters of life, where is God Almighty? Does it sometimes seem that your life goes unseen before God? Do you wonder if your life is too insignificant for God to care about? Psalm 9 is a plea for God to arise and defend the defenseless. David knows that the wicked detest God and he is resting in the fact that God will bring justive to the helpless. Help is found in God alone. Continue Reading…

Out of thankfulness the burden is removed: Psalm 9

How often do you place the burden of maintaining your faith in God upon your own shoulders? What role do we play in our salvation? Is there anything that God needs from us to accomplish one iota throughout all creation? When we lose the awe and wonder of God we lose the uniqueness of our own existence. I love how Psalm 9 does not demanding anything of God or elevating man’s position but proclaims an overwhelming thankfulness to God for the help and aide he grants to the oppressed and weary. Look back on your life and remember the moments that God aided you in your distress. How did you feel? Continue Reading…

Hope and trust grounded on God’s faithfulness: Psalm 4

What do we count on when we look to God for our hope? We recall all the times that God has proved Himself faithful to us and we cling to the truth that He will remain faithful. Why is it so difficult to rest and trust God’s faithfulness? We are surrounded the unfaithfulness inherent to humanity and we all have been let down at some point in our lives. The unfaithfulness we know so well makes it difficult to comprehend a wholly faithful God. How can we look to Him and not at some point feel fear and doubt about what He is purposing to accomplish through us. Continue Reading…

Hope secured in the mystery of God’s concern for mankind: Job 23 and 24

Job desires to find God and proclaim the wrongs that have happened in Job chapter 23. Would he really argue his case before God? Could any man stand to argue his case before God? The almighty God is so far above our concerns yet He still cares about us. Worship, awe and reverence would be the only thoughts in our mind were God to appear before us. Job knew and understood that God is infinitely greater than himself but he also knew that God cared about him. Does the knowledge that God cared about him make Job more confused? Is it necessary for us to endure difficult moments for us to appreciate God’s reason for ordaining and allowing the situation to happen? Continue Reading…

Sufficiency of God over the friendship of men: Job 19 and 20

What compelled Job’s friends to stay by him after the calamity happened? Did they just want to argue? Was it really their friendship with Job? Why do they insist on making accusation against Job? A true friend will not be one who when life falls apart throws accusations or flees from your presence. ”Pity me, pity me, O you my friends, for the hand of God has struck me. Why do you persecute me as God does, are you not satisfied with my flesh?” Job 19:21,22 We cannot sit and judge the lives of men; it is only for God to judge the heart of men. Continue Reading…
