Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble: Psalm 107
“Who is wise? Let him give heed to these things, and consider the lovingkindness of the Lord.” Psalm 107:43 These last words of the psalmist in Psalm 107 simply state all that is conveyed through the psalm. Mankind perceives itself as wise and intelligent, always ready to make the correct decision. Under the deception of sin we perceive many unhelpful and unhealthy actions as inherently helpful. We choose to implement our own design for our lives that is against God’s flawless design. Throughout Psalm 107 the phrase “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble…” is consistently repeated. The children of Israel continued to run away from God following their own ways only to find that there was nothing more than trouble to be found. God continually rescued Israel from their troubles. How can it be that people live to see God’s deliverance with their own eyes only to turn away and forget His faithfulness the next moment? Continue Reading…

Our dependance upon God’s faithfulness that carries us through the difficult moments of life is a testimony to God’s ultimate deliverance. “This will be written for the generation to come, that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord. For He looked down from His holy height; from heaven the Lord gazed upon the earth, to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to set free those who were doomed to death, that men may tell of the name of the Lord in Zion and His praise in Jerusalem, when the peoples are gathered together, and the kingdoms, to serve the Lord.” Psalm 102:18-22 Continue Reading…

All the possessions that we claim to cherish pale in comparison to the great treasure that is found in God alone. “For great is the Lord and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before Him, strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.” Psalm 96:4-6 Do you sing of God’s great faithfulness? Tell others around you of how God has been faithful to you in your life. Do you ascribe all you have to God’s sufficiency? Tell people that all you have in life are from God.
We need to fix our eyes on God alone, take our passions off of the idols that we have been clinging to and renew our first love of God alone. “Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all it contains; let the field exult, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the Lord, for He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. For He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in His faithfulness.” Psalm 96:22-23 All creation is awaiting for the moment that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, returns to judge the world. Will you be counted as a child of wrath of a child of God?
