Abram’s faith and his rescue of Lot and God’s Genesis 13 and 14

I love the picture that we have of the family community in Genesis 13 and 14. God had richly blessed both Lot and Abram to the point where the land couldn’t support them both. Abram loved Lot enough to let him choose where he wanted to take his herds and people. In this God also directed Abram to show the promise of the land his people would one day inherit. When Lot was captured the bonds of family were great enough to make Abram pursue Lot to free him. Continue Reading…

God’s story taken a page at a time: Genesis 11 and 12

>What faith Abram had to leave all he knew for a place he didn’t know! I am amazed to think about how faith is a journey. When I look at the beginning story of Abram I am easily found thinking that I could never do that. When in reality Abram just took one step of faith at a time. That is what I do on a daily basis to trust to know that God is bringing me to a place which is better and that I cannot find apart from Him. Continue Reading…

The Flood upon the world and His promise: Genesis 9 and 10

So in Genesis 9 and 10 we have a lot of changes happening in the life of mankind. It is amazing to see how man now used animals as food. Before the flood man was given plants and seed for food (Genesis 1:29) and after the flood God gives man the ability, laws, and right to eat animals. (Genesis 8:2-4). What was the world like before the man and animals feared each other? What would it have been like to walk up to a lion without fear? Continue Reading…

Pondering the wonders of a long life found in Genesis 7 and 8

A few thoughts about the flood. I sometimes think that the flood happened in the ancient past but I sometimes over look some key facts. People lived longer than today and if you think that Noah in modern term could have been born crossing with Columbus in 1492 and lived to see the year 2092! Think about the changes that have occurred since in the almost 600 years since Columbus… Continue Reading…

Generations of family life from Adam to Noah: Genesis 5 and 6

>Who are we? I know that many times I find my value in what I have, can purchase, or obtain. Looking at the genealogy from Adam to Noah makes me humbled because I cannot look back on my family very far before I lose track of people. I wish I could look back generations and know what kind of faith my ancestors had. Looking back Noah knew that who he was, who his forefathers were, and what he believed. Can we make steps today to ensure that our children and our children’s children know where they came from and what we believe of God?

Conversations with God in the Garden of Eden: Genesis 3 and 4

I find it amazing how God is showing my simple truths as I read through Genesis. In the garden of Eden God was physically present. I have always known that God was there but to think that he was physically present with Adam and Eve really amazes me. It makes me wonder at what point was God no longer physically present? Was God present in all His glory? What did Adam and Eve talk to God about? Continue Reading…

God’s command to Adam and Eve in Eden: Genesis 1 and 2

When I read these first 2 chapters I am amazed to see that the only thing that God commanded Adam and Eve not to eat was fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. This is something that I have heard hundreds of times but after reading these chapters I started to wonder what could Adam and Eve eat. That is when I thought of the tree of life that is also present in the garden of Eden. Continue Reading…
