Do you dwell in a continuous state of strife with the world around you? When you are at home with your family do you add to the contention and strife? While toiling at work are you scheming to climb the corporate ladder using whatever means necessary? Do you have genuine friendships with people or have you only collected relationships that solely benefit your life? If you have found your life consumed with strife, scheming, or shallowness I encourage you to look at Psalm 133 for a renewed life purpose. David is describing how great it is to live in unity with the fellow believers. It is good and pleasant when believers can put aside strife, scheming, and shallowness to live in unity. ”It is like the dew of Hermon coming down upon the mountains of Zion; for there the Lord commanded the blessing – life forever.” Psalm 133:3 Continue Reading…
The greatest act of unity occurred upon the cross of Calvary: Psalm 133
Lovingkindness poured out freely at Calvary: Psalm 32
How was sin forgiven before Jesus Christ died on the cross as a final and absolute sacrifice for us? The forgiveness of sin came through the continual sacrifices offered to God as atonement for the transgressions made by man. The effect of sin upon all mankind is the same; when we sin we are openly proclaiming that we do not need God in our lives and that the power is within us to make our own destiny. In Psalm 32 we see how God works in the heart of men. “When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away through my groaning all day. I acknowledge my sin to You, and my iniquity I did not hide; I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord’; and You forgave the guilt of my sin.” Psalm 32:3-5 Continue Reading…
Words of encouragement to a generation: Deuteronomy 3 and 4
What words of wisdom would you impart to a troubled soul? What charge do you give to people who are continually given over to straying from the commands of God? How do you encourage a people who you have represented before God? How do you sum up God’s desires for a people who are no longer going to be shepherded by you? This is the story seen in Deuteronomy chapters 3 and 4. Moses is forbidden by God to enter the promised land and he now gives last words of advice. Continue Reading…
God’s faithfulness in Jubilee and hardship: Leviticus 25 and 26
The times seem so different now compared to the culture of the Israelites described in Leviticus 25 and 26. I am thankful for living in a modern society with all the amenities that I have grown accustom to but what is the cost to our relationship with God and our relationship with each other? In the agricultural of Leviticus did they feel the business of life I feel today? Can we live in dependance upon God in a truer way?
Passion of a young man, Joshua: Exodus 33 and 34
“Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses returned to the camp, his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart the tent.” Exodus 33:11 Why did Joshua not depart the tent of meeting? When Moses left the tent it states that Joshua would not depart. Is it his desire to be close to God? Did Joshua talk to God also? Is it passion to know God that motivated him? Just some questions I have. Continue Reading…
