The way is clear in the wilderness of life: Isaiah 40 and 41

“In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.” Isaiah 40:3-5

Within Isaiah chapter 40 a question of God and His existence is asked. Do we know God? Can we comprehend the greatness of God in its fullness? “Who has measured the Spirit of the LORD, or what man shows him his counsel? Whom did he consult, and who made him understand? Who taught him the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of understanding?” Isaiah 40:13,14 Can we individually or collectively sway the intents of God? Can we even understand ourselves and our surroundings? It is impossible for us to comprehend the grand scale of who God is. Continue Reading…

Weathering a stormy moment of crisis: Psalm 11

A moment of crisis and indecision is before you. The decision you make effects your family and friends. In your mind one way will bring hope for tomorrow and the other brings ruin and despair but you cannot know with any certainty what to do. In Psalm 11 David is faced with tribulation in a moment of crisis. What did he do? His refuge that offered lasting help and hope was the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. How do we find refuge in the seemingly untangle God? How did David hope in God? Continue Reading…

Direction is found in the strength of leadership: Nehemiah 13

“Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and do not wipe out my good deeds that I have done for the house of My God and for His service.” Nehemiah 13:14

“Remember this also in my favor, O my God, and spare me according to the greatness of Your steadfast love.” Nehemiah 13:22b

“Remember me, O my God, for good.” Nehemiah 13:30b

Is leadership easy? Should anyone ever desire to lead people? Do people choose to be leaders because they desire power? Through the eyes of the world it is important to be a leader because it will add to what you have and it will help you to get more. What is Biblical leadership? In Nehemiah 13 we get a glimpse of a true leader. In this chapter the people of Israel have fallen back to the ways of their fathers while Nehemiah was absent from the city. Nehemiah had his eyes open to the evil that the people in Jerusalem were committing and he chose to take action. Continue Reading…

The workmanship of the Tabernacle: Exodus 37 and 38

I wonder how long it took to complete all the work for the Tabernacle? I am too used to running to the hardware store to get all the equipment needed for projects but everything was hand made. That just boggles my mind. I can’t fathom how it was all done. It must have been a sight to behold when the work was completed. What was Bezalel thinking when he was working on all the components to the tabernacle? Continue Reading…
