Relationship process overshadowing practice: Deuteronomy 23 and 24

The more I read through the old covenant law I see that we truly can never keep the law. Where would you start to try to keep the law? Did the people become so obsessed over keeping every jot and tittle of the law that you forget about the relationship with God? If I think forward to the gospel story it seems that the Pharisees and Scribes were so fixated on the law that they were not looking for a relationship with God. Is there any areas in my life that I get so fixated on the process of following God that I forget Him? What are my priorities in life and are they as important as I think they are? I never want my relationship with God to become just a method that I build to make myself feel better. Continue Reading…

Remembering God, the antithesis of pride in Deuteronomy 7 and 8

Do you find your desires are affected by your surroundings, property, or the people you surround yourself with? Straying from our faith and dependance upon God is nothing new because thousands of years ago the people of Israel were fighting against the fleshly desires which sought to pull them away from God. What is the solution to this problem of having our devotion to God pulled away? Deuteronomy chapters 7 and 8 continue with God exhorting the people of Israel through Moses in his final speech to the people before the leadership transitioned to Joseph and the entry into the promised land began. Foundation upon remembering Agape Love: Deuteronomy 5 and 6

The foundations of life for the Israel are being repeated by Moses to all the people. Why is it necessary to repeat what had been told and recorded previously? God knows the hearts of men and through mans every act of unfaithfulness and rebellions God proved Himself faithful to us. The reservoir of God’s faithfulness is infinite and His love for the people of Israel is being expressed as He reminds the people of how to live their life. Continue Reading…

Lack of faith in God’s daily provision shown in Numbers 11 and 12

How easily it is to fail to see God for who He truly is. The Israelites consistently grumbled against God. In adversity what do you do? Is God’s anger kindled against you when you lack faith to trust in His provision? Do you think that God can do all things one moment and then you try to solve all your problems your way? In Numbers chapter 11 the people were grumbling to God and he burned up the outskirts of the camp. How amazing is that. God doesn’t change so when we grumble He is not pleased. I would imagine that the people would stop grumbling but they started up again complaining about the food that God was providing. How crazy is that! God was supplying what they needed but they were not thankful for that. The lie that freedom was found in their bondage in Egypt and not in God had poisoned the peoples thoughts so they didn’t see the truth that their freedom was through and in God. Continue Reading…

Dedication of the Tabernacle and foreshadowing of the Messiah: Numbers 7 and 8

030_114I wonder what the energy level of the Israelites was like on the day that Moses had finished setting up the Tabernacle? Was there an awe and reverence of God? Were the millions of men, women, and children pressing in to see just a glimpse of the Tabernacle? In Numbers chapters 7 we get a little of the feeling of what took place when the Tabernacle was completed. What blessing God bestowed upon Moses. Moses was within the Tabernacle anointing and consecrating the walls, furnishings, and utensils. Moses was declaring that the Tabernacle and all with in it was Holy and God’s. Continue Reading…

Let’s look at my situation in light of what God says in the Bible and add some perspective to these events and feelings. Continue Reading…

Foreshadowing of Jesus Christ within the Israelites Camp Arrangement: Numbers 1 and 2

I honestly was kind of dreading starting to read Numbers. I was thinking about all of the people and numbers in Numbers. I went into reading the book with a prejudice. My prejudice toward the book of Numbers came from all the many times I have attempted to read through my Bible where I would try to read through the these old testament books as fast as I could. This time I took a long time to look at chapters 1 and 2 in Numbers mainly because I became very busy and didn’t take the time to post the blog after my first reading the chapters. After reading through the books a few times I became aware of some amazing truths in scripture.

The Ten Commandments movie makes me wonder sometimes

73_161How is it that the people of Israel while in slavery in Egypt saw all the miracles of God and yet kept turning away. I just watched The Ten Commandments and it struck me as interesting how people who had tangible proof of God in their midst still strayed from Him. It is happening in my life every day. I keep straying from God and turning to desires of the flesh. Well it is a fact that sin nature has poisoned us but I think there is something much deeper happening. Continue Reading…
