A warning against idolatry and pride: 2 Chronicles 25 and 26

Matt Redman - Intimacy - The Heart of worship

What does it mean when Amaziah did right in the sight of the Lord but not with a whole heart in 2 Chronicles 25:2? What was the driving force in Amaziah’s life? In 2 Chronicles 25 Amaziah makes an alliance with one hundred thousand fighting men of Israel but when a man of God gives him a warning he breaks the alliance. Why did Amaziah send away the hired men from Israel? When he speaks to the man of God about turning the men of Israel away he is concerned not that he offended God but about the money spent on the men of war. Amaziah feared the Lord but did he find his delight in Him? The life of Amaziah seems very similar to the life of may people today where we seek out the riches of this world first before we seek out God. We can never whole heartedly seek God when we have placed a greater value on anything in this world. Read more

Where will you turn in your moment of crisis: 2 Kings 3 and 4

I love the intentional, specific, and beautiful language that is used throughout Scripture. In 2 Kings 3 Jehoram the son of Ahab becomes king of Israel. He did what was evil in the sight of God, not to the extent of Ahab and Jezebel, but he choose to cling to the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. The struggle that was faced by Jehoram and by everyone living today is choosing to follow the sins of those around us instead of clinging to God. This language steams from when Joshua gave his final instructions to the people of Israel to cling to God instead of the ways of the people around them. What do you cling to? Read more

Lack of faith in God’s daily provision shown in Numbers 11 and 12

How easily it is to fail to see God for who He truly is. The Israelites consistently grumbled against God. In adversity what do you do? Is God’s anger kindled against you when you lack faith to trust in His provision? Do you think that God can do all things one moment and then you try to solve all your problems your way? In Numbers chapter 11 the people were grumbling to God and he burned up the outskirts of the camp. How amazing is that. God doesn’t change so when we grumble He is not pleased. I would imagine that the people would stop grumbling but they started up again complaining about the food that God was providing. How crazy is that! God was supplying what they needed but they were not thankful for that. The lie that freedom was found in their bondage in Egypt and not in God had poisoned the peoples thoughts so they didn’t see the truth that their freedom was through and in God. Read more

Sin’s burden and weight expressed in the law: Leviticus 5 and 6

We are inherently sinful! When I look at the law expressed in chapters 5 and 6 of Leviticus I see everyone living in sin. People sinned and it did not matter if they knew it or not sin was still sin. When I think about how difficult it has been for me to stay consistent in my Bible reading I can’t fathom how impossible it would be to keep up with the sacrifices. Read more

Consistency 1.0

Photo 261So I have not really been reading my Bible as I would like lately. I can easily feel like I am a bad christian or lack motivation because I have been lacking motivation. I don’t feel bad at all because:

Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away because of Me this night, for it is written, ‘I will strike down the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered.’ But after I have been raised, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.”
