I think the most interesting thoughts I have had in reading Genesis 19 and 20 are just “why” questions. I think of why was Lot in the city? Did Lot recognize the angels as angels? Why is the story of Lot’s daughters sleeping with Lot included? It seems like a lot of things that don’t add up. The story shows how depraved humans can be and how lost we are apart from God. I find encouragement when I see the faithfulness of God. God is faithful and remembers Abraham and He rescues Lot. I am so thankful that God is in control and faithful.

What is in a name? Why did God change Abram’s name to Abraham? I think about what a name means today and it seems like a name is just a way that we can identify someone. Abram and Sarai’s way was not God’s way: Genesis 15 and 16
Just as we leave Abram rescuing Lot in Genesis 14 we find in chapter 15 that God is promising Abram that He will provide abundantly for Him. It is interesting how Abram responds to God in questioning what good is wealth and status if he has no heir. Abram doubts because he and his wife Sarai were getting older and it was unlikely that they would have children. This makes me wonder what areas do I trust God implicitly and what areas do i think are impossible for God to fulfill? Abram’s faith and his rescue of Lot and God’s Genesis 13 and 14
I love the picture that we have of the family community in Genesis 13 and 14. God had richly blessed both Lot and Abram to the point where the land couldn’t support them both. Abram loved Lot enough to let him choose where he wanted to take his herds and people. In this God also directed Abram to show the promise of the land his people would one day inherit. So in Genesis 9 and 10 we have a lot of changes happening in the life of mankind. It is amazing to see how man now used animals as food. Generations of family life from Adam to Noah: Genesis 5 and 6
>Who are we? I know that many times I find my value in what I have, can purchase, or obtain. Looking at the genealogy from Adam to Noah makes me humbled because I cannot look back on my family very far before I lose track of people. I wish I could look back generations and know what kind of faith my ancestors had. Looking back Noah knew that who he was, who his forefathers were, and what he believed. Can we make steps today to ensure that our children and our children’s children know where they came from and what we believe of God?

I find it amazing how God is showing my simple truths as I read through Genesis. In the garden of Eden God was physically present. When I read these first 2 chapters I am amazed to see that the only thing that God commanded Adam and Eve not to eat was fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
