God’s plan and preparation in His people: Exodus 27 and 28

What was it like for Moses on the mountain when God was giving him instructions on how to make everything? God tells Moses to make it like it was shown to him. What an amazing thought to think about what Moses saw. Continue Reading…

On sitting and waiting…

59_142I have been battling with worry lately. Since my surgery four weeks ago today I have not been able to do much of anything. My life has consisted of 7 hours of sleep and 17 hours sitting in a recliner. I miss being able to walk. With the last surgeries I have been able to get out on crutches and drive so it made the healing process more tolerable. I can’t drive and the little moving I do on crutches has caused a sore on the one foot that bears all my weight when I crutch. This foot is the one that was fused and has taken 5 years to get to a healthy stable point. It is a complex balancing act right now. I am doing all that I can to not move to save my feet but I feel sad because I can’t get out. Sounds bad doesn’t it… Continue Reading…

Details on an ark, a tabernacle, and some furniture: Exodus 25 and 26

Chapters 25 and 26 in Exodus make me just wonder why? What is the purpose of giving us the detail of how the ark, tabernacle, and furniture was to be made? One reason to include the detail of how everything was assembled is to help people understand what an ark and tabernacle would look like. It is the same idea of simile that I mentioned before. It helps to have such detailed instructions and details to help us understand and visualize what God was commanding the Israelites to do. In the details of the construction it also shows how much wealth God had blesses the people of Israel with. Continue Reading…

Life on the precipice

027_139I seem to always find myself in this place every time I have have a surgery or a setback where I feel trapped. I have lost my abilities to go out on my own, drive wherever and whenever I want, and workout at the gym. It is very difficult for me right now to wait. I know that God is building my faith and patience up during this time but I never enjoy it because I have to give up my will and let God lead. Letting God lead has gotten easier through all these trifle episodes I so frequently find myself aquatinted so personally with. Submitting my will and desire is difficult but I truly believe that the refinement that God is imparting is for a higher purpose. Continue Reading…

A glimpse of God is all we need: Exodus 23 and 24

I am captivated by the slight glimpse given to us the reader about what Moses, Nadab, Abihu, and the elders saw when they worshiped at a distance with God. It is amazing to think that they mention the pavement! How often would we note the pavement or floor someone is standing on as something noteworthy? We would never say that we would note clothing, hair and eye color, or whether they spoke eloquently. In this case of describing God could any words that Moses could have written done justice to the true image of God? Continue Reading…

Grace to indebted, oppressed, and strangers: Exodus 21 and 22

In Exodus 18:17-27 Jethro gives advice to Moses about how to rule the people of Israel. In Exodus 12:37 you can easily say that there were at least 2 million men, women, and children. It seems that Exodus 21 and following are laying out how to govern the people of Israel. With such a concentration of people there are bound to be disputes and crimes. The ordinances laid down by God will help the men appointed to judge make correct and fair decisions. Continue Reading…

Preparation for a date with God on Mount Sinai in Exodus 19 and 20

Such a wonderful date… I think of the preparation that I go through when there is a girl I want to impress. I take extra care to make sure my hair is clean and shiny, my breath is fresh, and I smell sweet. This is all in preparation for most likely a few hours where I may be around the girl. Now look at Genesis 19:10 where God tells the Israelites to consecrate themselves for 2 days prior to His coming to mount Sinai. How feeble my efforts to impress the opposite sex appear in light of God. Continue Reading…
