God’s command to Adam and Eve in Eden: Genesis 1 and 2

When I read these first 2 chapters I am amazed to see that the only thing that God commanded Adam and Eve not to eat was fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. This is something that I have heard hundreds of times but after reading these chapters I started to wonder what could Adam and Eve eat. That is when I thought of the tree of life that is also present in the garden of Eden. It is easy for me to focus on the wrong committed by Adam and Eve in the garden and not see that the tree of life was an option to eat from the beginning. This speaks to the desire of God to keep us with Him for an eternity. God loved us so much that he planned from creation for us to spend eternity with Him but we sinned and fell short of the glory of God.
